F1!?? WHat's that??!
SIGH , I DEFINITELY AM VERY FRUSTRATED THAT I ACCIDENTLY OFF THE PC SWITCH AND EVERYTHING WAS WIPED OFF BEFORE I COULD SAVE MY POST! SO WHATEVER I TYPED AWHILE AGO WAS GONE AND NOW HOPEFULLY I CAN RECALL WHAT MY MOOD WAS ....
Year 2000 month of October time 1700-1800pm : The blazing sun almost took my life when i had to walk for about a couple kilometres before reaching the main entrance where the busses parked to bring us back to KL . Where was i ? In penang , malacca?? Nope i was just over the border of KL and Selangor a little , in Sepang . So what was a 13 year old girl and her sis' friend doing in Sepang at such a time ? What else , fulfilling her desire.... listening to screehing deafening machines reving the engines up to 19000 rpm , and of course watching my scarlet red team with the best combination , my hero behind the wheel of the scarlet Ferrari- Michael Schumacher . So what's so great bout this guy that i adore him?? Hmm he's not exactly handsome i would say , but he's real macho and the most fit driver physically in the sport . He was the then 26 year old youngster from Germany to won his first F1 world championship crown with the Benetton F1 Team in 1996 2 years consecutively . Then he was abducted to Ferrari in 1999 with a new whole team partnering Eddie Irvine (yucks!) together with some new combination , his old friends from Benetton , Jean Todt , Ross Brawn , and other key person to work together as a big family . So he was suppose to make a comeback for the scarlet team to win the world tittle for them since Jodie Scheckter did it in 1979 ... wow imagine those days .. Ferrari's performance is only like today's Jordan team / Sauber Petronas ... only in the middle of the field . Watching him was a great feeling to finally win it for Ferrari in 2000 . The historic year that was full of ups and downs for him , it was a historic year for me too . As a fan , it was my first year catching a full season without missing any race and watching Schumi fall and even rise victoriously in the end of the year . I trully remember the time he even broke down and cried in front of the press conference after Imola GP when he won the race after not finishing the past few races ; as a sign that he was under immense pressure . It was so sweet , as if i won the crown too .
Ok so what makes me so crazy about this sport ? Hmm i've said almost half of it up there , but actually it's not just like what ppl around me tell me . People around my life always doesn't seem to understand my interest for this sport and commonly remarked in a sarcastic way like "i don't get what's so interesting about watching cars driving and spinning around in circles for laps and laps and get sunburn after a tiring trip to Sepang" . Well , that's basically what i've been used to hear for the past years and it's really hard to be able find true passionate F1 fans out there in the Malaysian society now . IN school , so far i only know a few but somehow when it comes to form 5 they've lost their interest and i could sense it . In return i have to give them updates on the results . Well it's not about watching cars going round in circles , it's more than that!
Emm besides the handsome drivers (wooo ... some drivers are handsome but attitude sucks! So i don't go for looks totally!) hhahah , the way racing is suppose to be where you see overtaking manouveours(how do u spell this becky?) , the way the team plan their strategy to win the race through pitlane , the advancenment in technology and of course etc etc ... Well of course the race is more interesting when it rains! Hehehhe coz it's better for the Rain Maestro , who else but SCHUMI!?? As time goes i realise i watch the sport is not only for the physical look of it , but also the technical side ... It started to influence me in my life - how i wanted to get involved in the sport directly or indirectly . It's so great to be part of the sport , to be part of the team ... i can imagine ... So i started to be more interested in the mechanical part of it , the mechanism of the cars , the technology , and learning physics in school makes it even better! For the past 2 years , it became my ambition to want to be an F1 engineer , if possible but i won't want to root it out so early . Yaya .. then the comments come , "you're a girl , it's hard .. you're in Malaysia , it's even harder , learning mechanical engineering , it's worse , work in F1 , it's worst!" so this is what i receive and ponder upon from time to time ... is it true?
I hope this is not too draggy coz once i pop i can't stop ! haahhaha ... Well the influence not only brought something new in my life , but also using up loads of my money throughout these years ... hahaha i used to spend money on F1 magazines that cost about rm20-30 each and it depends on which type you buy . I used to buy it very often until i stopped since form 3 to ban the addiction in me . Then i made it a point to watch the race in Sepang "LIVE" in KL every year when it comes to M'sia . The tickets are AIN"T cheap though , ranging from rm100-rm 2000 ... not optical illusion, it's 4 digit you're seeing there! As a fan , how can i not watch it live? So there i was , in Sepang enjoying the race with different seats i've sat - the rm100 one where you sit on the grass under the hot sun throughout your whole day , the rm500 grandstands (no i didn't buy them , it's complimentary tickets) , and another rm150 last year with sis at the covered stand ... it was cool man , when you're at the grandstand and u climb up the stairs to reach your seats and to turn behind and "waaala , the whole circuit behind you" .. Well that's what passion can do to you . What else , when i don't get to go Sepang to watch , everyone knows how disappointed i am . Just like this year , i guess my friends were frightened off by how pissed and disappointed i was for not making it to Sepang , for some sad reasons i shall not reveal . I wanted to go alone to the extent but mom wouldn't allow ... It's always been a pleasure to watch in Sepang coz the race schedule is kinda fixed and it's usually a few days before/after my bday . So making it there would be a pleasant bday present for myself . What else could i ask for?? So in return , my bro in law who went there courtesy of Petronas came home with a new Ferrari cap for me!!! Hehehhe he's soo nice , he actually bought it for my bday for rm90 (which got my sis scolding coz he didn't throw away the receipt) knowing i lost my schumi cap last year during youth camp . Sadly i still miss my old cap a lot coz the design is nice , but "old things dun past, how does new things come?"
Many things i've learnt from the sport - not just machines , not just macho fellas , not just extreme stuffs , but many other things like perseverance , versatility , strong mentality and strength from these people working in F1 . THere's much more for me to list but I'll write it in another post about "Why Schumi , why a 6 time Formula 1 World Champion" . This is what passion can do to me , why i'm willing to go all out for F1-for the scarlet team; Forza Ferrari!
