No BLaCk TiE
Alright this post shall be in black.
Yesterday was one of the best nights i've ever had in my few months i think ....it all started with an all night out with my girls Wei and Poh Yee and a new friend we made .. Kim Chuan. Poh Yee's cousin brother. He is nice person and friendly as well as decent. Anyway yeah he probably thinks we're a bunch of insulting rude heartless disgusting lesbians who chat non stop and make fun of each other to entertain and make ourselves happy just for 1-2 seconds.
The night started at 6pm when i made a short trip to teach my private student somewhere nearby my house and i told the girls to reach my place at 6 45pm to park their cars so they could hop in my WMT who just came back from the hospital but had to work tirelessly non stop ever since. Mun Wei was the earliest this time , surprisngly .. the girl reached at 6 15pm and ended up watching a hokkien drama until i was back. Poh Yee was late ... because she had to go fetch her cousin from B U.
Poh Yee reached around 7 10pm and we took off immediately to Cheras. 1st destination ... Pastor Ronnie's housing area ... to eat our long awaited gathering dinner we've been planning since last year before christmas! Finally it was going on but this time i decided to just go on without the remaining girls ... but its' ok , we promise to have another dinner soon when everyone's back frmo hometown.
We jammed all the way to Cheras ... and by the time we were there to meet Unc Ronnie it was already 8pm and i followed him through the winding and uphill roads to this chinese restaurant near his house. Too bad his house had no electricity , so we ate outside and ate and ate and chat and chat and chatted away. About our current lives , our updates , church , the gospel and some uncertain questions we were fazed with.
By 9+ pm we were done eating ... and ps ronnie wanted to invite us up into his house but i told him maybe some other time because we had to rush off to a jazz bar in KL town. Where?
tada .......
It was located at this really deserted place in the middle of KL .. just along Jln Sultan Ismail behind the infamous ISTANA HOTEL . Which i've no idea where on earth was that. Anyway the prime purpose was to go watch ....
ta da!
My EX jazz piano teacher cum cool lecturer cum cool person cum noble jazz pianist cum award winning Music Director ... Mr James Boyle! and of course The Ragged Tigers la. His band's name.

The trip on the way there was hillarious and hectic and scary and panicking at times .. but nonetheless it was ADVENTUROUS. We the 4 youngsters who didn't know the exact location except myself who only knew the surrounding road names and specific landmarks , drove our way there and found ourselves LOST. We arrived safely at the location but we spent some 15-20 minutes going round the same circle of shop lots searching for this miserable 3 words.
NO BLACK TIE
Which we couldn't find and i started to get frustrated because Mun Wei started screaming at times panicly ... and we ended up parking at this strage DISCO called HAVANNA at the end of a road and with plenty of lights going on plus this happening place with jockey and a nice FERRARI parked outside , we thought this could be it. UNTIL we heard a loud
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By a girl's voice from inside the disco. We burst out in laughters and immediately concluded we landed in the wrong place. So we asked the jockey and thankfully he was nice enough to give us the direction to get there. We followed his direction but when we reached the road , we couldn't find the 3 words . I drove SO SLOW (10 kph) along this road ... and finally upon passing by a row of bars/disco/pubs i saw these faded few words .. .some Bl ... then TIe... then i went
"HEY!! I FOUND IT!! IT"S HERE!!"
Everyone got up excited and said
WHERE!?
I drove a little forward and asked everyone to look left and i was right . 3 small small tiny words hung up on a big wooden japanese door located FAAAAR IN without any billboards says
NO BLACK TIE
We cheered for joy in the car and suddenly everyone's mood was lifted up. Hahhahaha... i drove straight up and parked my car opposite the bar and came down and we walked in to the bar. It was beautiful .. the interior was awesomely designed ... very japanese style. Yet when Poh Yee pushed the main door open , i immediately heard James' playing on the grand piano with some drummer / bassist ... i got soooo excited i smiled so wide! Then upon pushing the small curtain to the side and being escorted to our table , i could see James playing on the grand and the sound system was good!
My ears became so happy because i was hearing some pure jazz stuffs ... and in an environment like that , it made me SOOOOO HIGH!!!
Alright then we sat down , ordered our drinks , and began to just chill and watch James' perform. AFter his 1st set of instrumental songs , he came down the stage and i called him and chatted with him a little while. The Ragged Tigers appeared without their violinist this time, because they were just accompanying a local jazz singer yesterday night. So , we're lucky enough to get to watch them perform their usual stuffs for the first hour or so when we arrive there. Before the singer came up to sing and turn ME OFF!
Anyway yeah so we stayed on until the singer came to sing .. and after the faggard finished his 1st set of songs , they took another short break. And this time i was sooooo mezmerized by the drummer's skills that i started to fall in love with him already . AHAHHHA ... UNTIL mun wei and i went out to chat with James and i took pics with him , then we chatted ... and he introduced his mates to us. Hiro was the bassist , and Wagner was the drummer. Skills wise hats off , but people can look rather different on stage and off stage.
Mun Wei has a thing for Hiro though .. and so does the faggard singer .... EEEUUUU ... we kept giggling at the singer's hand gestures and we had a hunch that he has some funny fishy feeling for Hiro. Oh gosh .. poor guy. ANd oh , Hiro's bass ...
its RED colouR!!!!
I managed to record some videos in my camera ... and good enough that i recorded Wagner's amazing non stop addictive drum solo and Hiro's COOL CHILLING bass solo! We were so impressed.. but sadly POh yee was a little turned off by the loud music and was beginning to be bored easily ... she drank her beer so fast that she ordered an orange juice instead. Wei and i had fun chatting outside at the bar area with James .. and i actually forgotten James was sooo chatty! And it was nice meeting the other 2 prodigees ... but the set back was , we chatted about other things and forgot to tell them
"YOU all played Amazingly WELL"
SIGH!
Encouragements and compliments is a must must .. what la me. I decided to leave around 12 40am and by the time my stomach was making noise and had a little gastric . So we left the place after Getaran Jiwa (oh gosh James' piano was BEAUTIFUL!!!!) and we continued our adventurous KL drive by going round searching for Poh Yee's DIE DIE MUST EAT "VERY NICE WAN" RECOMMENDED
WANTAN MEE!
And so we bought them and i drove Kim Chuan back to B.U centrepoint and we girls headed home to Jln Kuching .... we reached home before 2 am and ate our SUPPER and Poh Yee went home . While Wei and i ... SLEPT like pigs.
Conclusion ... I love the night. I love No Black Tie .. i Love JAZZ .. and i Love the Ragged Tigers.. i love JAMES! he made me really miss him .. and he has managed to inspire me again to remind me how much i loved jazz . And now ,he makes me want to continue learning my jazz piano but sadly i've got no budget for that now. So ... WAIT LA! SIGH!!!!!
NBT - we're going back there on the 13th for ..
JAMES BOYLE & the Ragged Tigers
PS : Mun Wei later came out with a lame joke saying we should name our band "The Ragged JAGUARS" next time. GOSH
!

N the wan tan mee , next time try eating on the spot while it's still hot.. seriously darn niceeee de lorr...
Anyway, it's a nice place to pamper urself in , definitely one HELL of an experience to those who love jazz, definitely worth the price (even though i'm not a fusion jazz fan), definately gonna blow my mind off (if it's bossanova , hehe)
